CONFERENCE FAQs

What items are included in the registration fee?

Two great keynotes, engaging breakout sessions, continental breakfast, coffee/tea and afternoon snacks, publishers’ exhibits, door-prize drawing, and alumni events. Parking is included (in the RiverCentre Ramp ONLY) on a first-come first-served basis. All conference attendees will also receive a conference folder with CEUs, and other conference materials.

What items are NOT covered in the registration fee?

Thursday’s EL Coordinator meeting is not included in the registration fee for the MELEd Conference. If you are interested in attending the EL Coordinator Meeting, you need to register separately.

In order to keep the registration cost affordable for our attendees, the 2021 MELEd Conference registration fee does NOT include lunch. Each day there will be a 90-minute break for lunch. Attendees may either purchase a voucher at the time of registration for a box lunch at the RiverCentre, or they may purchase lunch on their own at one of the cafés at the RiverCentre. Also, we encourage attendees to visit some of the one of the many nearby cafes/restaurants for lunch.

I can’t find my CEs. How can I get a new copy?

All conference attendees will receive CEs in their conference folders. Please keep track of your folders. If you lose your folder or CEs, please contact MDE (mde.el@state.mn.us) for duplicate CEs.

What is the COVID-19 Vaccination policy for this in-person event? 

MELEd COVID-19 Policy:  The health and safety of our conference attendees and broader community is of the utmost importance. Upon entry to this year’s conference, all conference attendees are required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (final dose at least 14 days prior to the start of the conference). If you are unable to be vaccinated for medical, religious or another valid reason we will accept proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result from 72 hours or less prior to the conference (rapid tests or at-home tests results will not be accepted). All conference attendees will be required to wear a mask while at the conference when not eating or drinking. We will continue to follow CDC and local public health regulations and send out any additional guidelines/updates closer to the conference. Thank you for keeping our conference safe. 
 
On the registration page it will ask:
Are you able to provide proof of full vaccination upon entry to the conference?
  • Yes, I will provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
  • I have a medical/religious exemption and will provide proof of a negative PCR COVID test result.

What is the EL Coordinator meeting?

The EL Coordinator meeting takes place online on Thursday, November 18 and is organized by the Minnesota Department of Education. Thursday’s EL Coordinator meeting is not included in the MELEd Conference registration fee. If you are interested in attending this meetings, you need to register separately.

The EL Coordinator’s Meeting is for K-12 English Learner Program Coordinators from Minnesota school districts and charter schools. The meeting will include updates from the Minnesota Department of Education related to English Learner programming and assessment as well as policy issues and other initiatives impacting English Learners in Minnesota.

Do presenters need to register for the conference?
Yes. All presenters need to register for the conference, regardless of the length of their presentation and whether they intend to see any other sessions.

I registered for the conference but now I am unable to attend. May I receive a refund?

Refunds (less processing fees) will be given for requests made through November 5, 2021.  Please contact the conference chair if you need to cancel your registration. Refunds will not be given after November 5, 2021.

I made a mistake when I registered online. How can I correct it?

Please contact us at admin@minnetesol.org and/or meled@minnetesol.org.

I need to register a group. How can I do this?

Groups of five or more from the same institution can register with a paper or virtual form before November 8, 2021. (You will mail in the form to MinneTESOL via USPS, or via email.) After the deadline, please follow the directions on the bottom of the How to Register page.

Please note, we do not accept Purchase Orders as payment for the conference. Groups may pay via check or credit card.

I don’t like to share personal information, such as registration information, online. May I still attend the conference?

All registration for the conference is online. Payment for the conference must be done via the secure online system. All major credit cards are accepted. You do not need an PayPal account (or any other kind of online payment account) to securely make an online payment with your credit card

I wish to pay the discounted member/conference rate, but I already joined earlier this year. Can I still get the member/conference rate?

Yes. Log into the registration page using the same email address you used to become a MinneTESOL member. The system will recognize you as a member and unlock member registration prices for you.

GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS

Are grants or scholarships available to cover registration fees or memberships?

Yes, grants or scholarships are available. Please read on for different types.

First-Time Presenter Scholarship

In order to encourage participating from exciting new contributors to our conference, we are offering a scholarship for first-time MELEd presenters (who are also MinneTESOL members). Members presenting at MELEd* for the first time are invited to apply for this scholarship upon acceptance to present at the conference. Scholarship winners will register and pay for their conference fee and after participating in the conference, coordinate with the conference co-chairs to receive reimbursement for one day’s registration costs.

Travel Scholarships

This year MinneTESOL is again making available a limited number of scholarships for its members to defray the cost of travel to the 2021 MELEd Conference.

  • Travel scholarships are only available as a benefit to current members of MinneTESOL (see http://minnetesol.org/membership-renewal to join or renew your membership).   
  • These scholarships will cover a maximum of $250 in travel expenses (transportation and accommodations).  
  • Travel scholarships are available only to MinneTESOL members traveling 100 miles or more to the conference.

*Members who have previously presented at MELEd, MinneTESOL, or MinneSLIFE are not eligible for this scholarship.
