2021 Recipient: Natalia Benjamin
Natalia Benjamin

Multilingual Learners and Ethnic Studies Teacher at Century High School (CHS), Rochester

Natalia Alvarez Benjamin is an EL teacher, an immigrant and language learner herself, and is this year’s Teacher of the Year (TOY) for Minnesota. She also started the League of Latinx Educators and does great work for Minnesota’s multilingual, multicultural communities.

She provides a resource to promote the diversification of the EL field in MN and educates teachers about how to integrate culturally responsive strategies into their instruction as well as the inclusion of home and heritage languages.

It is exciting to have a Teacher of the Year come from the EL teaching field here in Minnesota. She is a great leader in the field and she illustrates day-to-day the messages that the keynotes will be providing at the conference. More information can be found here.
