Strengthening Language Access and Inclusion Services in PreK-12 Education ALL AREAS

Providing language assistance services is essential for student success and family and community engagement. MDE is committed to eliminating language as a barrier to accessing core information and activities of the agency. The plan contains guidelines, procedures and standards consistent with key components of the framework, such as: creating and maintaining structures of two-way communication, inviting all perspectives and experiences, and striving for justice and inclusion. In the presentation, we will discuss the following the content: code of ethics and standards of practice in providing effective and culturally responsive language assistance; language assistance process management and implications of family and community engagement; and understanding challenging scenarios involving language interpreters and assistance services.
